The BBC series Green Planet, for which I filmed multiple sequences across the series has won some major awards in the last few weeks; Best Series at Jackson Wild and Wildscreen (the world’s two most significant natural history film festivals), it was also nominated for Best Cinematography in both festivals.
In the last two days we have also won the Televisual Bulldog Award for cinematography and the highly prestigious Grierson Award for best Natural History documentary.
A testament to the hard work of all the people involved; scientists, producers, researchers, editors, cinematographers, production teams all combining to tell amazing stories about plants!
Green Planet, the BBC series I spent a couple of years working on, has received multiple nominations from the two major industry film festivals – Jackson Wild and Wildscreen.
In total Green Planet received 10 nominations in a variety of categories including Best Cinematography for the camera team. It’s a real honour to be alongside such fantastic cinematographers. Tim Shepherd, Martin Dohrn and Mark Deeble were all inspirations to me when I was starting off in the industry.
This is the second consecutive year that I’ve been part of a camera team that has received nominations for cinematography from these key festivals. I’m extremely grateful both to the amazing individuals that contribute to making these films, and the festival organisers and judging panels who dedicate so much time and effort selecting the nominees.
Antarctica, a feature film by BBC Studios, has been nominated for Cinematography at the prestigious Jackson Hole Media Awards, huge congrats to the whole camera team and the fantastic production team – the film has also picked up nominations in the Educational category and for Best Musical Score. I spent 2 wonderful months filming for the project at the McMurdo base in 2017.
Other projects I worked on: Perfect Planet and Attenborough’s Life in Colour, have received nominations at the Jackson Hole Festival.
The National Geographic feature ‘The Hidden Kingdoms of China’ has received a nomination for best documentary cinematography. It seems like a very long time ago that I filmed for this – two sequences; Golden Snub Nosed Monkeys and the bizarre and wonderful Emei Moustached Toad. Huge congrats to the other cinematographers who worked on the film and the fantastic team at Brian Leith Productions.
